Richard Prince
The writer I choose to critique is Richard Prince because his work is so up to date and for our time i searched a lot of the artist and his aesthetic and iconic ways really intrigued me. The painting I choose was his celebrity painting. Subject matter is a Instagram photo of the famous Pamela Anderson, Title Pamela swimsuit, artist Richard Prince. Its so many colors it is a picture of the blonde haired Pamela Anderson Laying on her side with her hand on her head to keep her uplifted at the beach in a white t-shirt swimsuit, The painting also includes comments he has written to describe the picture. The painting is the size of a poster.
Richard Prince uses a number of important icons in this work of art to communicate his idea. He wants the viewer to be Fascinated and intrigued to the fact of an Instagram picture that is then painted it draws attention to a wide variety of ages, and etc. Its almost like you fall through a trap door into the world of amazement. The Blonde hair is flowing like a tree in the wind, the white bathing suit looks as if it is as soft as silk, and the sand looks as if its a bunch of soft cotton colored sandy brown.The artist is attempting to create the same image as she has physically taken and make it look as if its just a printed out blown up Instagram image.
In my understanding the artist is speaking to me personally about how you can look at an image on the internet and miss it as being a piece of artwork I think Richard Prince style of art helps me realize that everything is virtually art work its just the way you take it, and what you make it. The white t-shirt in the painting almost makes me think of the style sense we are starting to pick up now I could see myself taking this image and showing it to my friends and telling them how good of an idea this is to make a t-shirt bathing suit. Understanding this picture helps me appreciate all forms of artwork now. The artist has done a successful job of taking a Instagram image and making it his own and throwing in his own little twist and tang to the artwork.
